TECHNOLOGIES AFTER THE ATOMIC BOMB
BY:MONICA CANALES
Since the dropping of the atomic bomb fifty-five years ago, technology has advanced, it has become apart of our everyday life. There are different technologies that have advanced, some are: cell phones, fluoride in public drinking water, and e-mail as a form of communication.
Technology is revolutionizing the way that people communicate, using technology to help express their unique ideas. Every new technology benefits some and harms others. It doesn't add something, it changes everything for the future.

After the atomic bomb there's an on going medical experiment being carried out by the United States Government, which is fluoride being added to public water supplies to reduce cavities in childrens teeth. There revealing a connection between fluoride and the nuclear age, which led this theory of fluoride being good for children untrue. Fluoride has a higher toxicity rating than lead. Hydrogen fluoride is the sixth most prevalent pollutant in the United States. Today two- thirds of United States public drinking water is fluoridated. Since the days of WWII, United States public health leaders have said, that even low doses of fluoride are unsafe for people, and children. Fluoride was the key chemical in the atomic bomb production. Human exposure to fluoride has inreased since WWII, due not only to fluoridated water and toothpaste, but to environmental pollution by major industries from aluminum to pesticides. Artificial fluoridation of public drinking water supplies is intended to create bodily change in humans. As I mentioned above, every new technology benefits some and harms others.
Cell phones are good technology for people on the go. Many people have jobs where they need to get a hold of clients or clients need to get a hold of them, cell phones is the good way to do it. Also there good for emergencies. You can call for help to come to your aid. There has been some disagreements about whether or not cell phones are safe. Radiation travels through the wire connecting the phone and earpiece and penetrates the head directly through the ear canal. When attached to a belt, radiation penetrates the area by the phone and is absorbed faster than the head, because tissues and organs such as the liver and kidneys provide better conductivity than the skull and have no bone protection. With this scary news of mobile phones causing illness and even brain tumors many phone users are buying hands free sets and shields thinking they will minimise radiation to their heads. Test results show that these devices do not always provide protection and some increase levels of radiation. Cell phones are staking out a place in history, weaving themselves into the social environment. They are also a fashion statement. They are necessities that symbolize power and importance. Whether there harmful, or not there also good for the reasons I mentioned above. So in some ways this technology has advanced for the better, more and more research is being done to control this problem.
The internet is a big advancement for human comunication, as the cell phones I mentioned before. They bring people and business together through e-mail, instant messaging, message boards, and chat secessions. The interent has completely changed the way people communicate forever. E-mail allows everyone the opportunity to communicate professionally, affordably, without the burden of learning computer languages or networking systems. This good form of advancing technology of e-mail, is being used more especialy in education. Teachers are using e-mails to send assignments to students or students sending their homework to their teachers. Instant message saves you money on long distance calls, you can chat with someone for hours with e-mail for a low cost. Chat secessions are a good way of meeting people from all over the world, with out living the comfort of their home. So as you can see this form of communication is a good technology to help you save money and meet new people.

Library research:

Some times it's hard to comprehend the rapid pace of change in technology. As I did my library research on e-mail as a form of communication, I found that e-mail has surpassed the telephone as the most frequently used form of communication.

In this periodical I found by Capowski Genevieve stated that thirty-six percent of the respondents to an on-site survey conducted at the 69th Annual HR conference & Expo in New York said, "That they used e-mail more often than any other form of communication."(Genevieve) There is a clear distiction between the change enabled by tehnology and our own personal feelings about it.

All in all, technology has become part of our every day life and it has advanced some for good and some for the bad, this is a challenge for us but, the challenge is not only to keep up with changes in technology, but also to look at the bigger human and cultural implications of that change.
